What is a video CD (VCD)?
Video CD or VCD is a video format widely used for home entertainment. What makes VCD special is that the VCD format is used to split movies, movies and digital media into standard CDs or 120mm optical discs. The VCD format was created in 1993. The VCD format uses the MPEG-1 video encoding format that was very popular in the late 1990's. VCD players are also designed to play VCDs and show content, movies and movies on television and other displays. The VCD can also be run on a computer using the CD-ROM driver. Also, to watch VCDs, use special software called Media Player such as VLC, Windows Media Player.
VCD has been replaced by Super VCD which provides better video quality and higher resolution. Also, other formats like XVCD, DVCD, DVI have been created as an alternative to CDV. A VCD can store up to 800 MB of video, which is about 80 minutes of video. But this can vary depending on the quality of the video and the density of the scene.
VCD vs. DVD
DVD is the successor to DVD, which offers better video quality, more features and longer video duration. Even VCDs use the MPEG-1 video encoding format. DVDs use the more modern format MPEG-2 which provides better compression and higher resolution. Just as a DVD is played with a DVD player, a DVD is played with a DVD player. In general, DVD players can also play VCDs.
